Gratitude
March 22, 2021  |  Muscle Shoals, AL

What an adventure. It’s not lost on me how hard work and a bit of luck have brought us to this place, the legendary FAME Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. We are here to record three songs with a few people from Storyteller Overland who just 10 months ago were strangers and now, they’re our good friends, our road trip buddies and bandmates.

June of 2020 Jason and I took a risk and we rolled the dice on a question – if we could travel self contained to play outdoor shows across the US, could we keep paying our bills in the face of a global pandemic? Nine months and 40,000 miles later in our Classic MODE4x4, the answer is a bold, excited “yes.”

It was a year that stood to be a total loss, we were braced for impact but instead we found ourselves welcomed into outdoor neighborhood gatherings, anniversary dinners, surprise birthday parties and other moments of celebration across America. Jason has played backyards, rooftops, beachfronts, prairies, pecan groves and mountainsides since July 2020. And while we do miss the tradition of live music indoors, we have found these smaller, more intimate shows to be rewarding tenfold during this otherwise tragic Covid-19 year.

And now we’re here, at FAME, where musical legends like Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones and Jason Isbell (& more) have made historic, award-winning records and songs. We’re here to celebrate our story, to record the songs these last nine months have inspired. And can you believe it, I even put on some headphones and cut a vocal track – right where Aretha cut “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man.”

There’s no shortage of gratitude in our hearts. Our campervan has kept us going, brought us new friends, inspired new songs and I cannot wait to see what the next 40,000 miles hold.
