STORYTELLER GXV EPIC

Last week, I quietly snuck a Storyteller GXV EPIC out of the Global Expedition Vehicles factory in Springfield, MO and found myself meandering around the gorgeous Ozark Mountains heading back toward Alabama. Meandering may not be the right verb here…the EPIC doesn’t meander, it simply dominates.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel in a ton of different vehicles (2 wheels and 4, 2WD, AWD, 4x4, vans, trucks, cars, boats, aircraft, etc) and I can just say, there is nothing like traveling in the GXV EPIC. It is magical, magnificent, mammoth, and amazing…and I LOVE IT!

While the EPIC is bigger than other adventure vehicles made by Storyteller Overland, I was shocked by how sure footed and maneuverable this rig is. Built on the mighty 4x4 Kenworth® chassis with the Cummins Turbo Diesel (660 ft lbs!), the EPIC features front and rear locking differentials, King® shocks, forged rims and Goodyear® 44-inch MPTs.

From the driver’s seat, you can see everything and go over anything. The EPIC feels at home on small, windy roads and steep paths with loose surfaces (that I was not likely supposed to be on) in search of hidden camping spots around Bull Shoals Lake. If you haven’t been there yet, put it on the list…it has almost as much coastline as all of Florida! It’s clean, beautiful and HUGE! Even EPIC!

I will admit – I am a pretty simple guy and the EPIC is almost embarrassingly luxurious…almost. The joy and independence of being fully self-contained (even a washer and dryer on board!) was a whole new level of overlanding for me and I could easily imagine living full time, or at least months at a time, in the EPIC.

The skylight right above the master bed with wireless chargers on each side, 120 gallons of continuously hot freshwater, dual burner cooktop, huge bathroom, separate huge fridge and freezer, 31(!) separate cabinets, and- since we’re talking numbers – a 200 gallon diesel capacity offering a range of up to 1800 miles on one fill.

That’s from Miami to Quebec without needing to stop for fuel!

“Magical” is the word that kept coming to mind for me when reflecting on taking the EPIC to the Ozarks and then on South, camping along the way. Ever since, I have been having recurring dreams of taking the EPIC through exotic locations in South America and the far East…so I’ll have to add that to my adventure bucket list now, too. Long range epic adventures were what this truck was designed for and will excel at.

Storyteller Overland GXV Epic

Before the Storyteller GXV EPIC, one could only find such an expedition rig as a $1M+ custom truck, but through the 20 years of industry expertise at Global Expedition Vehicles, this magical, truly epic expedition vehicle is available from Storyteller Overland at $696,377

You can see the Storyteller GXV EPIC in person at Overland Expo Mountain West (08/23 - 08/25, Loveland, CO) or call us to arrange a tour of one of our factories.
