🚐 Rigs & Reggae - A Reflection

Peter & Christine, MODElt Owners

Wow. What a weekend.

As we sit here catching our breath and sipping one last cup of Elk City Coffee, we’re still buzzing with gratitude and joy from everything that unfolded during Rigs & Reggae this year. We (Christine and Peter) just want to take a moment to reflect on what made this gathering so special—not just for us, but for everyone who rolled up, tuned in, and vibed out.

First and foremost, this event wouldn’t have been what it was without the incredible community that showed up. From the very first rigs that rolled through on Thursday afternoon to the final hugs and see-you-next-years on Sunday, we witnessed people connecting, collaborating, and just truly enjoying each other's company. Laughter echoed through the park. Friends paddled down the bay. Strangers became family. And all around us—everywhere we looked—were smiles and good vibes.

We’re so thankful to have had our co-host and behind-the-scenes wizard, Kyle Yarian (@thatguyoutdoors), by our side through every step of the planning process. Kyle helped us keep things rolling smoothly and tackled logistics like a champ—from gear drops to power setups to wrangling schedules. His heart for the nomad and overlanding community shines through in everything he does, and it was an absolute honor to work alongside him again this year.

Let’s talk about the music, because... wow. We were blown away by the talent that graced our stage. From the uplifting roots rhythms of Aaron Nigel Smith to the spiritual grooves of Dre Z Melodi, the energy pulsing through the music was contagious. Jubba White, Katt Eye, The Israelites, and Rising Buffalo Tribe each brought their unique spirit to the stage, creating a weekend-long soundtrack of love, resistance, and celebration.

We kicked things off with Light Code Sound raising the vibration, got down with Ja Ska Mon’s soulful revival, and soaked in every note from the powerful voices of Michael Leslie, Reb’l Sound, M. Pres, and more. Every artist brought something different—and all of it was magic.

But Rigs & Reggae was about more than just music—it was a space for expression, growth, and creativity in all forms. Each morning began with the comforting aroma of Elk City Coffee Roasters brewing up the perfect start to our days. A huge “thank you” to them for fueling our early risers and sleepy wanderers alike. Sipping a cup of that rich brew while watching the fog lift off the bay...it was its own kind of therapy. Then came Yoga (by @d_c.media) & Soundbaths (by @boxopicasso), grounding us in peace and presence before the music and movement of the day began. Whether you stretched under the rising sun or just laid back and let the sound wash over you, it was a beautiful way to start each morning.

Throughout the weekend, people gathered at the heart of the event: Center Camp. That’s where we hosted some of our favorite daytime activities, including the always-popular Tino’s Craft Circle, where folks cozied up with spinning wheels, yarn, and creativity. Whether you were an experienced spinner and knitter or just happy to be part of the circle, the vibe was pure warmth and community. Just afterwards, Tori’s Resin Jewelry Workshop (@tori__riddle) was a huge hit—giving people a chance to create stunning, personalized pieces to take home as festival souvenirs (or trade with new friends!). We also hosted a hands-on Mending Workshop (with @katherineart.co), where folks learned how to repair their well-loved gear and clothing—another reminder that sustainability can be stylish and empowering. And for those looking for playful vibes, our yard games (Kubb, croquet, cornhole, and more) brought out the friendly competition and lots of laughter.

Speaking of sustainability, a big highlight was the Sustainable Rig Build Talkwith Val (@happercampergirl), who sparked some powerful conversations about building intentionally and reducing our impact while living life on the road. We also leaned into the mystical with two Tarot Card Reading Raffles hosted by Raquel (from @TheTarotMindset), which offered personal insights & encouragement.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the stage stayed alive—not just with music, but with you. Our open mic sessions on Thursday became a beautiful reflection of the talent and heart within our own community, and epic karaoke night was pure joy. We’ll never forget the 80s tunes, singalongs, and the unexpected show-stoppers that took the mic.

Of course, none of this would’ve happened without our incredible volunteers. We had a rockstar crew show up ready to build, serve, guide, and clean up. From helping at the gate, to setting up stages, to jumping in wherever help was needed, this team made everything possible. Every shift covered, every question answered, every task tackled with heart— We are so grateful for each and every one of you.

We also want to give a deep, heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, who not only believed in our vision but shared in our passion. Your support helped make this event possible—from providing gear and coffee to donating raffle items and contributing to the overall experience. It’s clear you’re not just brands—you’re part of the community. We are beyond grateful to collaborate with people and companies who care about connection, creativity, and culture as much as we do.

When we started this journey, our goal was simple: create a space where vanlifers, music lovers, and creatives could gather and celebrate what we all love. Rigs & Reggae has grown, but that core feeling remains: community, creativity, and connection—and this year, you all helped that heart beat a little louder.

To everyone who came, who danced, who shared stories by the fire, who created art or simply soaked in the vibes—thank you. You are what makes this so special.

See you on the road,
Christine & Peter
