The Storyteller Overland Grand Bohemian: The World's First Turnkey 4x4 Micro Camper

Storyteller Overland   August 5, 2026

Some ideas start in boardrooms. Others start in pubs.

The story behind the Storyteller Overland Grand Bohemian begins with exactly that kind of conviction: the kind that doesn't wait for permission, doesn't follow a playbook, and doesn't apologize for being ambitious. It began with a pint of beer in London. And it ends, at least for now, with the most capable turnkey 4x4 micro camper ever built.

First, the Platform: Why the INEOS Grenadier Changes Everything
To understand the Grand Bohemian, you first need to understand the vehicle it's built on, and the remarkable story behind it.

In 2016, INEOS Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe was sitting in his favorite pub in the Belgravia neighborhood of London. The pub's name? The Grenadier. As INEOS recounts in their own origin story, Ratcliffe was lamenting the discontinuation of the iconic Land Rover Defender and recognized a significant gap in the market for a true, uncompromising off-road vehicle. So he did what any reasonable billionaire adventurer would do: he sketched a potential design on a napkin. That sketch still hangs on the pub's wall today and the pub itself has since been recognized with World Origin Site status for its role in bringing the Grenadier to life, as reported by Motoring Research.

That sketch would become one of the most significant vehicles in recent automotive history.

If no one else would build an uncompromising, purpose-built 4x4, INEOS would. After Land Rover refused to sell Ratcliffe the original Defender production line, he went his own way entirely. According to INEOS, the company went straight to Magna Steyr, a 4x4 engineering specialist with decades of experience, to turn the sketches into steel. BMW was then appointed to supply their TwinPower Turbo engines. The result was tested across every terrain on earth from arctic ice to 14,000-foot mountain peaks, and eventually Austria's Schöckl Mountain, one of the toughest off-road test tracks in the world.

Since its debut in 2022, as Gear Patrol notes, the Grenadier has proven to be more than a homage to classic 4x4s. It's a functional, uncompromising platform built to handle real-world challenges. The engineering is deliberate and unapologetically old-school: body-on-frame construction, Carraro solid beam axles, a Tremec two-speed transfer case, and permanent four-wheel drive. The Grenadier is powered by a BMW 3.0L engine paired with a smooth-shifting 8-speed ZF transmission, delivering confident performance both on-road and deep off the grid.

Until now, what it lacked was a place to sleep.

Enter Storyteller Overland: The Grand Bohemian
Storyteller Overland, the Birmingham-based outfit that has been building some of the most thoughtfully designed expedition vehicles on the market since 2019, changed that with the Grand Bohemian. As HiConsumption put it, Storyteller took the already-capable INEOS Grenadier and turned it into a fully integrated micro camper — pop-top tent, full galley, 5.4kWh power system, heat, water, the works — without watering down its off-road credentials in the process.

The Grand Bohemian is Storyteller's first purpose-built overland rig on a body-on-frame, four-wheel-drive SUV platform. Unlike vehicles that are outfitted with aftermarket parts post-purchase, the Grand Bohemian is engineered as a complete integrated system from the factory.

This distinction matters more than it might seem. The overlanding world is full of aftermarket builds, impressive ones certainly, but the Grand Bohemian isn't that. It's not a Grenadier with camping gear bolted on. It's a new vehicle category entirely.
As Jeffrey Hunter, Storyteller's Founder and Chairman, put it in the official launch announcement: "Even before we ever fully built out our first MODE Adventure Van, we were dreaming about creating a world's first turnkey micro camper like the Grand Bohemian. But it wasn't until Jim Ratcliffe and the good people at INEOS dared to bring the Grenadier to market that we finally had the right platform to go live on."

What Makes It a New Vehicle Category
Here's where education matters, because there's genuinely nothing else like this on the market.

The Grand Bohemian doesn't fit neatly into any existing box. It's not a traditional overlanding rig. It's not a camper van. It's not an RV. It's not just a modified SUV. As GearJunkie described it in their exclusive reveal, the concept is to allow its owner to confidently move between the worlds of daily driver, weekend warrior, and true long-range traveler without compromising.

The Build: Off-Road Capability Without Compromise
Storyteller adds a focused package of off-road hardware to the Grenadier platform. As Off-Road.com detailed in their coverage, EVICTUS Prerunner suspension handles the ride quality side of things, using a self-adjusting dual-piston design intended to perform across a wide range of conditions without manual tuning. Tires are BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3s mounted on Torque Enduro wheels, which are compatible with an optional beadlock ring.

The front end gets a GP Factor Bull Bar Grill Guard integrated with a 12,500 lb winch. A 360-degree lighting package covers fog lights, driving lights, and auxiliary running lights. Triple locking differentials (front, rear, and center) combined with a two-speed transfer case mean the Grand Bohemian goes places most vehicles simply don't.
Edmunds notes that the Grenadier's 10.5 inches of ground clearance and optimal approach and departure angles make it easy to traverse many obstacles straight from the factory. The Storyteller-spec prerunner suspension takes those credentials further, tuned for loaded overland travel on sustained rough terrain rather than just showroom spec sheets.

Living Well at the End of the Road
Capability means nothing if you're miserable when you get there. This is where the Grand Bohemian earns its name.

The most transformative aspect of the Grand Bohemian's overlanding setup is the Alu-Cab roof. The pop-top tent gives the Grenadier a lofted bed, rear standing room, and a 270-degree awning.

The rear seats of the Grenadier are replaced with a full galley and a lounge: the kitchen area features an induction cooktop, a fridge and freezer combo, a fold-down prep and dining table, and a sink. A transverse sofa bench doubles as a sleeping space and sits atop full-width pass-through storage. The interior is finished in carefully selected materials: leather, warm textures, refined surfaces, all designed to feel like a considered living space, not an afterthought.

The Grand Bohemian is equipped with a fully integrated power, heat, and potable water system designed to support extended travel. The 5.4kWh onboard power system handles induction cooking, refrigeration, lighting, and device charging without shore power dependency. An exterior shower and a compost toilet round out the self-sufficiency package.

The Grand Bohemian sleeps two to three people and includes two seatbelts.

RVIA Certification: A Smarter Way to Own It
One of the most compelling and most overlooked aspects of the Grand Bohemian is how it's classified.

The rig is fully RVIA-certified, which means it qualifies for RV financing, RV insurance, and access to Storyteller's nationwide dealer and service network. As GearJunkie pointed out, this is because it's considered a fully integrated conversion rather than a vehicle accessorized after purchase.

The Grand Bohemian can be financed as an RV, which means much longer terms and often lower rates than a standard passenger vehicle. Combine that with a comprehensive warranty on the whole build and a lower price point than building it yourself, and things get very compelling, very quickly.

Storyteller lists the Grand Bohemian at $198,888 on a no-haggle basis. Financing is estimated at $1,339 per month based on 20% down over a 20-year RV loan at 7.99% APR. The INEOS Grenadier's factory warranty covers the base vehicle for five years and 60,000 miles. Storyteller's upfit carries its own separate warranty.

Build it yourself with comparable spec and you'll spend more, take longer, and have no warranty to speak of. The Grand Bohemian isn't just a product. It's a case for a smarter path into this category.

The Soul Safari Philosophy
Storyteller has always built vehicles for people who believe that the journey itself is the point. The Grand Bohemian is the purest expression of that philosophy.

The interior is thoughtfully crafted with refined materials and warm textures, designed for slow mornings, long conversations, and unhurried evenings. The Grand Bohemian expands where you can go, how long you can stay, and how comfortably you can inhabit the wild without dulling its edge.

The vehicle's emblem, a Kudu, is the great African antelope known for its elegance and agility in difficult terrain. It captures the spirit of what Storyteller set out to build. Something that belongs in the wild. Something with grace. Something built for the kind of travel that leaves you different than when you started.

Since the INEOS Grenadier launched, the overland aftermarket has been slowly building it into the capable all-terrain platform its spiritual predecessor, the original Land Rover Defender, once was. But no one has done it quite like Storyteller Overland.

Who the Grand Bohemian Is Built For
There's a specific kind of traveler the Grand Bohemian was designed for. Not the weekend camper. Not the luxury RV tourist. Not the hardcore race-prepped rock crawler. Someone who wants all of those modes available, depending on the weekend, and doesn't want to compromise any of them.

If you've ever spent time DIY-building a rig and realized you were essentially doing what a manufacturer should be doing for you, the Grand Bohemian is the answer to that frustration. If you've ever driven a capable off-roader to a trailhead and wished it had a real bed and a hot meal waiting at the end, this is that vehicle. And if you've looked at the camper van market and wanted something that could go further off the beaten path, this is it.
